Home Theatre PC

I was thinking about buying hardware to make a Home Theatre PC (HTPC in short).

Since i am just browsing and google-ing about it, I hope any of you guys got any experience with HTPC yet. And in the meanwhile its always handy to keep a list up here P So far i think i go for
(prices for getting it at home in the netherlands, and yes i know prices are way lower in USA)

arrow enclosure Antec Fusion Remote Max [156 EUR/229 USD]

arrow motherboard M3A78-T [129 EUR/187 USD]

arrow Storage Samsung Spinpoint F1 (HD103UJ) 1 TB [98 EUR/141 USD]

arrow Input device Adesso WKB-4000US [105 EUR/154 USD]

arrow DVD-/+R(W) Burner/ hd-dvd/blue ray reader LG GGC-H20L [100 EUR/148 USD]

and something like
arrow memory GeiL 4 GB DDR2-800 Kit GX24GB6400C4DC as it comes cheap these days... [67 EUR/ 99 USD]

arrow fan (if needed) listed here; like a Nexus Real Silent or a scythe ninja [prices between 8 and 20 EUR]

isnt it better (and cheaper) if you just buy a prebuilt home entertainment pc ? Unless you are goign to use some old case, monitor along with some other things you already have.

Instead buying ddr2 why not get the new ddr3 , it will cost you almost double and u could only get about 2 gigs but it is better.

Well its going to be an extra pc, without monitor but just straight on my lcd tv (hdmi)
to watch movies, tv, listen to (internet) radio, download some stuff and browsing websites in living room.

Well thats what i was thinking about as well, it also depends on platform being used. Unless i go for vista 64, it wont even recognise more then 3,33 GB memory ;)

Well premade stuff is either without functions (stuff/hardware) i really want to see inside or are more then double priced from building a computer yourself.

On one hand its quiet some money from the extra it brings above a good dvd-recorder with divX/X-vid or even LAN (like KISS-player etc.) or an playstation3

Tho it has extras....but will i ever use it (enough)....
Oh man i am so dutch D

i wouldnt think you would need more than 500 watts ( power supply) for the rig your building.

What about video card what are you thinking of getting? Im assuming if ur going to watch blueray stuff you woudlnt settle for cheap integrated graphics.

I dunno yet... lols, the integrated card on the mobo on first post is said to be more then enough... tho thats not the main reason why i am doubting about it.... At the moment the best tv (or most modern) is inside my bedroom. The one in my livingroom (where this is all about) was a really good TV at the time... though that was 2001. Philips 32 PW 9525... Trouble is, that it doesnt have hdmi/dvi input P
Just scart, svideo and composite.... The videocart integrated inside the mobo of the first post has hdmi and vga.
And lets not forget about the sharpness of reading internet pages and such from the couch. On the one in my bedroom i can literally see every small pixel and read internet pages without any difficulty..... OWwww why so serious.... Ok so i dont know yet... maybe that i just put my tv on ebay and buy a newer model.

Anyway I got plenty of time to figure it out. First I have to go on a holiday to Rome (and that will cost me some) P Before i can save up for the htpc.

Dante mentioned blu ray if the dvd player you are buying dosnt have this then it is old.

Have you heard about the 6 processor units becoming available soon if not already? This is the hard thing about buying coms they are constantly getting upgraded and your new rig you just swapped one of your arms for is old in 3 months.

I suggest you just buy a racecar like me. I am soo happy with my new racecar.
