Hehe, I thought I should make a thread for everyone so that they can say why they deserve a kudos or two.
Let me tell you guys about the neverending and still continuing story of me acquiring T&P.
As I said in an earlier post, I had actually never heard of Rise of Nations until I decided to expand my video game library. Me living where I live, it's hard to keep up sometimes with recent releases. Keep in mind, where I live, people still play starcraft competitively and people can make about 500 000 dollars a year playing professionally (they even show it on T.V. here) if they are good enough. They are basically the equivalent of a movie star in that sense! O
But I digress...anyhow so I eventually found out about Rise of Nations on wiki and decided I'd give it a go. I happened to be shopping in Yongsan (a huge building in a suburb of Seoul dealing with everything related to Electronics). I came across a copy of Rise of Nations for about 30 dollars and picked it up. It was in Korean but I thought it would be possible to install it in English as it was made by English speaking people at one point and then merely translated. Some games can do that...
So I went home, installed it and went to change the language settings but they were in Korean! Wahhh! Still, I figured out a solution which was to download the .iso (I have Daemon tools) so I just used the cd-key I had with the Korean version and got the English version going (I actually like Daemon tools as I only want to use my cd drive when absolutely necessary).
So I played it, loved it, got better at it slowly and then heard of thrones and patriots. Being the conscientious shopper I am, I decided to read reviews, most of which were mixed they said the single player campaigns were great and the added features were good, but that the nations were somewhat unbalanced. I decided "Why not?"
Since I don't have a credit card (no I don't have debt, just never got around to getting one) and my gf does, I tried to find a copy at an online store here. They were sold out...so I figured I'd try to get it off of Amazon or Ebay but they wouldn't ship it directly to South Korea!
Long story short, I had to make an account on Ebay, bid on one (wanted to save a bit of money and it was quite an experience!), then I had to make two accounts for paypal (I made one with my name but I couldn't put my gf's card on that) then had to pay it and get it sent to my parents in Canada.
And if all that wasn't enough, then I have to wait for my parents to send a package (birthday present, some food I miss, etc...) which will take anywhere from a month to two months to arrive (it's expensive to ship overseas).
So pretty soon, a brand new copy of Rise of Nations Gold Edition (I figured I'd spend a bit more to get the full English version) will be flying somewhere over Canada and possibly trucked across the vast wilderness, only to do the same in Alaska, Russia, possibly China until it finally arrives...
The things I do for a legal version of a great game. D
so that's why you all shoudl GIVE ME SOME KUDOS! D hahahaha!
